Tips for new bloggers – 2 year Blogiversary

April 16, 2018 Blog, Social Media

Collegewanderlust.com is 2 today! So that makes today my two year Blogiversary. I published my first post on the site on April 15, 2016. 2 years later and so much has happened. I am here to share tips for new bloggers – things I wish I would’ve done or known when first starting out as well as some of my favorite posts of the last two years.

When I first started blogging, it was just because I wanted a creative outlet to share my pictures and words I kept in my head. Today I wanted to share a few things I have learned in my two years of blogging and tips for new bloggers.

First of all, blogging is not always fun and not just free things. I have grown and learned A LOT blogging. I have met some amazing people and had some fantastic opportunities.

Support system is key

Find people in your life that understand what exactly a blog is and will support you in your new adventure. Whether that be from Facebook groups, local bloggers, friends or family. FIND YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM. My sister had been someone I can count on. She helps me take photos, edits my blog posts and sometimes just lets me babble about the blogging world. Every blogger needs that person in their life.

Stick to it

I have taken so many breaks from blogging. Sometimes from something major in my personal life to just being busy with school. Either way, I come back to my blog when I find the time. I am hoping to truly schedule enough time in the future to have time for everything soon.

Take time for yourself as well

As much as I say stick to it, know when you need a break. When my relationship of four years ended, I knew I needed a break and I took one. I was able to take that time for myself and it was well spent. When school gets too hectic, I know I sometimes need a break from blogging. Realize that breaks can be healthy.

Utilize social media

Social media can be a huge asset if you use it wisely. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are where I get most of the traffic to my site.

Overall I wanted to highlight some of my favorite collaborations and posts I have done on collegewanderlust.com

First of all, I should include my first ever post – Tips for first-time flyers – Looking back on this post I remember how I long I sat writing it. My advice to new bloggers is to not sit on your blog post for months like me. It is a huge waste of your time.

One of my favorite collaborations I have ever done was with Babbleboxx on my Fall Semester Must Haves post. This was such a fun post to write and photograph. Some of these products have even become staples in my life now.

A recent event that I was invited to that my sister and I had an amazing time was a Salata & Painting with a Twist Party. We had never been to a PWAT party. The Salata food was delicious and the painting was so much fun. https://www.collegewanderlust.com/salata-painting-twist-party/

Another one of my favorite ongoing series on the blog is my “Cruising In Style” posts where I feature a new car. Here you can read one of the posts, Cruising In Style: 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring.

Overall I am so thankful for all the love, new friends and opportunities I have received the last two years and look forward to another fabulous year!
