I flew on my first flight a month ago. I was lucky enough to travel with two friends who are experienced flyers and could advise me on how to prepare for the flight. I had no idea what to bring or expect on the plane. The following are tips from my experience on my first plane ride. While some of these tips may be common sense for some, for me I was clueless.
1. Dress comfy and bring a jacket. While some airlines will give you a little blanket and maybe a pillow, you will still want a jacket. It can get freezing on the flights. Dressing in layers can be the best plan.
2. Charge and prepare your electronics for long flights. By prepare I mean download your ticket, books, games before arriving at the airport to ensure your battery lasts longer.
3. Some snacks and drinks are free. During the flight, the attendants kept asking if I would like something to eat or drink. I had packed some snacks, and I had ASSUMED nothing was free. My new flight philosophy is just to ask. While on this flight it was free on other airlines it might not be.
4. Some airlines will have power outlets in your seat. I didn’t realize my seat had this until the end of my flight home. (face palm). Check out this article which can give tips on which airlines offer outlets.

5. Pack a backpack/purse like a pro. Certain items are MUST HAVES for flights, such as eye mask, headphones, snacks, and a neck pillow. (Will be writing another post on a perfect backpack post soon).
What are your tips you give for friends and family that are first-time flyers? Lets chat in the comments!

Good tips here – not bringing a jacket is something people get caught out by when they’re flying from a hot country!
For longer flights, my main tips would be to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water rather than coffee/alcohol, and to get up and move around at least a couple of times (it may disturb your fellow passengers but they will need to do the exact same thing) to aid circulation and keep you nimble 🙂

Pretty good tips even though I did all of this already.
I always make sure to charge my phone completely, have my external battery full and download all the songs, movies and series I haven’t seen yet. 😀
