It’s National Empanada Day and Houston empanada lovers should look no further than The Original Marini’s Empanada House.
Their Empanadas are handcrafted and always fresh. They have a wide choice of savory and sweet fillings to fill your every empanada craving. There is a reason that Marini’s is a Houston favorite.
Marcello and Pelusa Marini opened the doors to “Marini’s Empanada House” in 1971. Unfortunately, a fire caused them to lose the original business but their family has brought Houston’s favorites empanadas back with 3 Houston locations.
According to their website, all member of the Marini Family are working hard to keep their traditions alive. “Houston empanada lovers can rejoice now with our new attractions like Churrascos sandwiches and a variety of Argentinian wines, the famous green tea called “Yerba Mate,” and of course, the famous Pelusa’s Alfajores Artesanales, or the exquisite Alfajores with dark, white or hazelnut chocolate filled with dulce de leche, all made fresh from scratch daily.”
What type of Empanadas should you try?
Beef “Gaucho” Empanada – Ground beef, hard-boiled egg, olives, onions, and spices
English Empanada – Ground beef, peas, carrots, potatoes, spices, and Worcestershire sauce
Eggplant Parmigiana Empanada – Baked eggplant, fresh garlic, mozzarella cheese, and Portuguese sauce
Avocado Empanada – Creamy avocado, diced tomato, onions, bell peppers, garlic, and spices
I love that they have such a diverse menu. They even have vegetarian options which are always a plus for me! They also sell other sandwiches, soups, and salads.
For dessert, I had the SNICKERS empanada which included Snickers™, dulce de leche, and peanut butter. Seriously the BEST dessert I have ever had. So freaking delicious!
